Free-phase product, typically known as "light non-aqueous phase liquids" (LNAPL) such as petrol, diesel, kerosene, aviation gas etc., or dense phase or "dense non-aqueous phase liquids" (DNAPL) can be recovered by a wide range of different technologies.
The selection of the best technology should be made by evaluating several site specific factors including:
The nature of the product
- Is it LNAPL or DNAPL?
- What is the specific gravity of the product?
- What is the viscosity of the product?
- Is the product potentially explosive?
- Is the product particularly chemically aggressive?
The Geology
Does the contaminated ground consist of Sand, silt, clay, fractured bed rock, made ground?
The Hydraulic Conductivity
- Does the product flow freely within the formation?
- If hydraulic control is required, is a separate high flow electric submersible required? or can product and water be simultaneously extracted using a top filling pneumatic total fluids pump?
Water-Table Fluctuation
Water GRS offers skimmer pumps with a product/water interface tracking range of 1.5m or our SIPEX motorised tracking system with a range of 5m.
The above considerations are not intended to represent all the relevant questions required as other issues such as space, well numbers are also all relevant in the selection of the technology.
As such we offer a wide range of technologies for the recovery of free-phase products (LNAPL & DNAPL) including most petroleum hydrocarbons (diesels, petrol, aviation fuel), coal tar & most chlorinated hydrocarbons
