Double award win for McAuliffe and Geostream UK at Brownfield Awards 2020.
Geostream UK and its sister company, McAuliffe, have won Best Application of Remediation Technologies at the Brownfield Awards 2020, as well as scooping Highly Commended in the Project of the Year category.
Both awards recognised McAuliffe and Geostream UK’s work on Old Trafford’s former Itron gas meter factory, where the team carried out extensive soil and groundwater remediation in preparation for 260 new homes. This included the UK-first use of exclusive patented substrate, Anaerobic BioChem Plus (ABC+).
McAuliffe and Geostream UK carried out the project for the North West office of 85-year-old housebuilder, Miller Homes.
Judges praised McAuliffe and Geostream UK’s use of technology to unlock the site, as well as its successful engagement with stakeholders. The team beat off tough competition to win the Best Application Technologies category, coming up against entries such as remediation works on the £1.8bn Mersey Gateway project.
John McAuliffe, group managing director of McAuliffe Group and Geostream UK, said: “It’s been a real privilege to work with Miller Homes to unlock this gateway site, which had sat derelict since the Itron factory closed in 2016.
“The Brownfield Award is testament to the hard work of our team, who combined their technical expertise with proven technologies to design and deliver the most efficient and sustainable remediation strategy for this site.”
