Geostream UK and McAuliffe have scooped ‘highly commended’ for best re-use of materials at this year’s Brownfield Briefing Awards.

The awards recognise best practice in the remediation sector, with the hard-fought ‘Best Re-Use of Materials’ category celebrating sustainable, beneficial and compliant materials re-use in a brownfield development project.

The project entered saw Geostream UK and McAuliffe unlock the 15ha site of a former royal ordnance facility – which was heavily contaminated with zinc – ready for construction of 265 new homes. The team’s innovative approach to materials management resulted in 99.8% of potential landfill material being re-used on site, as well as making the development commercially viable.

This is the second time McAuliffe and Geostream UK have been recognised by Brownfield Briefing, having won the Best Digital Innovation award two years ago.

John McAuliffe, group managing director of the McAuliffe Group, said: “I’m very proud of our team’s innovation, and achieving highly commended in such a tough category is testament to their hard work

“We loved working on this project. It’s been a pleasure to bring a historic site back into the local community in a sustainable and compliant way.”
